No toilet, no bride!

April 7th, 2010

Hectic, hectic sort of week! (Expect a BIG announcement here sometime in the next week or two, on a new venture that’s been in the offing for some time).

So, posting will be a little slow this week, but here’s a link to an interesting article, on women taking up the cause of better sanitation in Haryana by demanding toilets for their girls. I wonder if the demand for brides is in any way tied to the shocking gender ratio in that state?

I had no idea about this campaign. It’s a good idea, and I think the reason it might work is partly awareness and partly a lack of brides :(

But I am not sure about women really had to hold their bladder all day long, a popular joke tells a different story.

As two young women sat in an open field, a bunch of men, including the father in law of one unexpectedly walked into them. There was no time to get up and run. They quickly pull their odhnies over their faces. One girl grins with relief and says, “Doesn’t matter what they saw, so long as they don’t know who they saw.”
